For 2024, Car and Driver did an in-depth report on the Explorer, providing buyers with the full picture of what to expect from the model, including pricing. The 2024 Explorer was mostly identical to the 2023 model, though the hybrid engine option was removed for all models except the police interceptor model. For 2024, there were 8 available trims on the Ford Explorer, with the Base model starting at an MSRP of $38,355, and the trim topping Platinum having an asking price of $56,810. A full list of trims, including the popular Limited model, is provided below.
- Base - $38,355
- XLT - $40,165
- ST-Line - $48,495
- Limited - $49,015
- Timberline - $50,925
- ST - $51,600
- King Ranch - $56,665
- Platinum - $56,810
Speaking of the Limited trim, it’s also the model Car and Driver recommends as the best value point in the whole lineup. Though not available with the stronger twin-turbocharged V6, the single turbo inline four is respectable enough in its own right. When equipped with the towing package, it improves the total towing capacity to a heft 5,300 pounds. Additionally, all wheel drive can be specced into for an additional price tag of $2,000, an add-on they advise considering. Aside from that, the features that come standard with the Limited are plenty to justify the uptick in price over the Base model.
Some of the highlights in that department include the heated steering wheel, which is also power adjustable, and is complimented on the interior front by a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, as well as leather upholstery, and a power-assisted folding third row. On the exterior, 20-inch wheels are added to the Explorer, which is complimented by upgraded driver assists, which include adaptive cruise control. For an improved off roading experience, they note the Timberline can provide just that, while utilizing the same inline four from the Limited.
