The all-new 2022 Ford Explorer has been completely redesigned and reengineered to be even more capable and versatile. It offers a choice of four different engines, each of which has been optimized for performance and efficiency. The base engine is a 2.3 liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound feet of performance torque. It's followed by a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 that makes 365 horsepower and 380 pound feet of torque. Both of these engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Explorer also offers a hybrid engine option to extend fuel efficiency as well as up the horsepower of the family-oriented Ford Explorer.
The Explorer's towing capacity has also been increased for 2022. When properly equipped, it can now tow up to 5,600 pounds. That's enough to easily handle a small boat or camper.
